Its nice working with models more than once. I can get a sense of who they are and what will work best for them. Krista again Yabo again People say gear doesn't make a photographer, but I love getting new gear. Especially when its a cool light modifier like the rayflash. Its nice on camera but even better off camera.
Was a fun show to shoot. And thanks to my awesome assistant for the night, Nic. Ohgr
I've been messing around with random stock photo sites for a while now. I started with Newscom through KRT/MCT but their own upload section shut down. Then Photoshelter came along as an answer to the microstocks and offered fair treatment of photographers. Well they shut down, too. That hurt, I had 400 shots up there with 43 lightbox ads (basically a buyers bookmark, indication there was at least *some* interest.) None of the 40thousand something photographers had any idea they were about to close up. Now I'm at Alamy, Music Pictures, and Photographers Direct. Alamy has super strict quality control and doesn't care about the actual picture so none of my band photos can go on there. Music Pictures I'm waiting for someone in Germany to review a contract I signed. PD I do all the licensing and talking to buyers myself. None are anywhere near as good as Photoshelter. I'm going to try to become a contributor to Retna, also - but they actually look at your work before you're accepted. The point of this long boring post is to get some of you who are bored at work to look at a bunch of band shots and tell me which should/shouldn't go in my new portfolio. CLICK ME!
At least, I think I am. Sort of. I take pictures of things anyway. Also, people. And animals. And bands. I went to a seminar THE strobist gave about seo this week. (He mentioned how it was strange to be referred to as a the.) Basically its all about putting certain keywords and phrases into your site/blog to make the googlebots happy. For me that would be things like maryland photographer, band photography, live music photographs, pet portraits ... umm ... you guys don't mind me pandering to the googlebots right? I'm supposed to be conversational but when has that ever happened? I need to get some googlejuice (thats the term THE strobist kept using. I picture googlejuice as being green, and somewhat thick - sort of like slimer, and served up in a tall glass.) I might set up a separate blog because lj isn't really botfriendly and just use this to voyeuristically observe your lives. Wish I had an update to my website to talk about. See what I did there? I am so totally enthralled by shorpy I have to post it in case anyone hasn't seen it. SHORPYAs if the site wasn't cool enough, how about that name Shorpy Higginbotham? Here are a few of my favs so far (I only got to page 95...) ( link heavy )Tue, Aug. 26th, 2008, 01:58 am See
Animals. Tell your friends. Tell your friends to tell their friends. Maybe someday I'll learn actual marketing. Opinions on this are welcome. Mon, Jun. 30th, 2008, 02:25 am post
Right so, lots of updates on flickr. Have a look around. ( people )I'm going to focus more on starting up my pet photo business for now. I suck at coordinating models and make up artists and hair stylists and wardrobe stylists. So if you know anyone whos rich and loves their animals send them to me. Bald ego kitties ( cat )Michelle's doggie ( dog )Also I will be going to London next month for 10 days to visit my pregnant (!) sister but I don't even know what photo gear I'm bringing. are much more fun than just 'stand there and look tortured because you're in a band' live shots on ReGen
No not her. She was fabulous. This ledge was about four feet off the ground. I still don't quite know how she held herself up there. This one was the difficult one. ( arachnophobes beware )I found it on my leg. I took it out to the balcony when I was done. Mon, Sep. 17th, 2007, 04:37 am Pets
This guy... licked my ear and dropped his toy in my lap while I was shooting his owner. Anyone know what kind of dog he is? I'm thinking of starting a pet photo type business so if anyone wants to volunteer their animals for me let me know. (If you recommend me to friends I want to start charging.) Birthday Massacre photos up on the ReGen Blog New(ish) stuff on flickr Went to the Baltimore Antiques Show on Saturday and came home with a GORGEOUS print of this image. Its a 16x20 signed and numbered shot of Johnny Weissmuller by George Hurrell. The scan barely resembles the print. I absolutely love it, but I can't help but have a little buyers guilt. It cost a lot. Also, due to some recent discussion (mostly on the flickr strobist group) I decided to try out a microstock. I hate the idea of them, and the thought of supporting anyone who devalues photography kind of makes me ill- but its not like they're going anywhere. So I figured I'd dump a few random shots of my cat in and see how it went, because $5>$0. They only accepted 9 out of 37 shots. I'm trying not to take it personally but its pretty damn insulting to be told your work isn't good enough to be sold for $1. Tue, Aug. 14th, 2007, 03:42 am Which pic
I can't decide which one I like better. One has a better expression, the other has better composition. ( kitty teeth )Tue, Aug. 7th, 2007, 11:27 pm This...
hung out on my balcony door for 4 days. Its a Luna moth, about 6 inches across. They are apparently pretty rare and only live up to a week. It was nice having him around. ( more ) |
